Good Evening!
Hello! And a warm welcome to my blog.
This evening i will be reviewing a Japanese style Restaurant called: Murasaki.
MURASAKI
Location:
This Restaurant is located in Dyke Road in Brighton
here is a handy link to a map if needed: Murasaki directions.
Exterior:
From the outside it looks like any normal Restaurant.
The familiar Traditional Japanese Noren, (hanging banner cloths) are on the inside once through the front door.
Interior:
Once inside, it has a very different feeling from the grey exterior. It's fairly compact in size.
It has large amounts of natural light from the roof structure (reminds me of a small conservatory), (during the day), and plenty of spotlights dotted around for a nice evening meal.
Decor:
There certainly is a Japanese interior decorating influence with the low, heavy seats, the use of fairly light coloured wooden items, (which have a very pleasing grain). There are a few pictures hanging around on the walls.
Menu:
Today i am unable to take pictures of the menu.
(I hope to return to the Restaurant and update this at a later date).
In the meantime here is the link to Murasaki official menu file.
Time to order some food.
Before the food arrives we shall have some refreshing Tea.
The Green Tea arrives £1.35.
Comes in a lovely shaped/looking teapot and handleless mug.
From the large selection of items on the menu, the "Usual" Sushi, Sashimi, Tempura, Seafood, Bento box, etc are all here. There are always very good Vegetarian options on Japanese menu's.
There are a few dishes that i have not heard of before.
But today i will stick to the ones i have eaten at other Restaurants, and compare the results.
The futo-maki Soft Shell Crab Tempura Sushi £5.95
They taste good, and there is enough Crab rolled in the thick cut Sushi.
Note: This Sushi is really thick cut.
Next to arrive was the Miso soup.
The Miso Soup £1.50.
This comes with my Una Jyu (Unagi) served as an additional item.
I was looking forward to this light warming soup, but, today, has someone forgot the spring onions, and the Tofu?.
una jyu for one: £7.85
for one: A box of crispy anago (saltwater eel) fillet on a bed of steamed rice with
sweet teriyaki sauce served with Miso soup.
Note: I was sure the menu said that the Unagi would be crispy!, it was far from crispy today.
(Perhaps it really was crispy, but the steaming bowl of rice made it otherwise).
Note: Maybe to solve this issue it could come on a separate plate.
Dessert:
We decided to not have any dessert today,
as we were in a hurry to go shopping in central Brighton.
However, if i had had the time, i would have gone for the Tempura Ice Cream.
Conclusion:
Would i return to dine at a later date?...Yes!
Personal Rating System:
My personal rating for the: Taste of the food: 8 and 1/2 (Out of 10).
(Of the dishes that i have tried, all of them were very good).
Price: 8 (Out of 10).
The price of the dishes seem a little high for the portion sizes.
Sushi:
